Kitchen

You share the kitchen with your flatmates. There is space in the fridge for your groceries – the shelves are numbered so that each person has their own area. An oven, hob and microwave are available. The kitchen cabinets are also divided by room, so you have your own areas and there are no mix-ups.

Bathroom

You share the bathroom with your flatmates. Cleanliness matters a great deal to us: the kitchen and bathroom are cleaned professionally by us on a regular basis. In the bathroom you have your own storage space, provided there is enough room. We expect all residents to leave the shared areas clean and tidy after use.

Living together in the flatshare

With us you will not find a classic flatshare with a shared living room and dinners together. The flatmates live largely independently: people greet each other in a friendly way, respect each other’s quiet hours and otherwise leave one another in peace. Most tenants use the room mainly for sleeping and are out during the day. If you are looking for affordable, well-kept accommodation in the Canton of Zug – without major social obligations – you have come to the right place.

Practical everyday matters

Doing laundry

You can do your laundry in this property. Ask about the washing times and any costs during the viewing. In Switzerland it is common for several households to share a laundry room – in practice this works very well when everyone sticks to the agreed times.

Waste disposal in the Canton of Zug

In the Canton of Zug you need special chargeable refuse bags for household waste, which you can buy at the checkout in any grocery store. Glass, PET, cardboard and metal are disposed of free of charge at public collection points. Note: fines for incorrectly disposed waste can be very high in Switzerland – ask your flatmates how disposal is handled in this property.

Cleanliness

The shared areas – kitchen, bathroom and hallway – are cleaned professionally by us on a regular basis. This is already included in the rent. We ask you to leave the rooms as you would like to find them: do the washing-up, wipe down the hob and do not leave spoiled food lying around.

Shoes and clothing outside the room

Shoes and outerwear may only be kept outside your room in the cupboards provided. In most properties there is a cupboard in the entrance area where you can store shoes, coats and jackets. We will show you where it is during the viewing.

Location & surroundings

The shared room is located in Baar in the Canton of Zug. The Canton of Zug boasts an excellent location in the heart of Switzerland: the train station is easy to reach, Zurich is around 25 minutes away and Lucerne around 20 minutes.

The Canton of Zug also offers one of the lowest tax rates in Switzerland. With a signed tenancy agreement you can easily register with the municipality as your official residential address.

We only reveal the exact house number at the viewing, in order to protect our residents from unannounced visits.

Living in the Canton of Zug – tips for newcomers

Registration & authorities

After moving in, you must register with the relevant residents’ registration office within 14 days. In the city of Zug this is the Zug residents’ registration office at Gubelstrasse 22 (Mon–Fri 08:00–11:30, Thu also 14:00–18:00). With your tenancy agreement, ID and a passport photo, registration is usually quick. If you live in Baar, Cham or another municipality, you register with the relevant municipal office.

Shopping

The most popular shopping centre in Zug is the Metalli right by the station – Migros, various specialist shops and a brasserie under one roof. For everyday shopping, the Migros and the Coop in the old town are recommended, as well as Aldi and Lidl for cheaper prices. An insider tip: the Zug city market at Kolinplatz (Tue and Fri mornings) with fresh regional produce.

Leisure & nature

Lake Zug, the Zugersee, is the heart of leisure life: in summer you can swim and grill at the public beaches in Zug, Cham or Risch – free of charge and without reservation. The lakeside promenade is ideal for jogging, cycling or simply strolling. If you love the mountains, you can reach the Zugerberg by public transport in 45 minutes – great views and hiking trails for all levels. In winter, a trip to Engelberg or Hoch-Ybrig is worthwhile.

Meeting people

As a newcomer you often wonder where to make connections in a new city. A few proven ways: InterNations Zug regularly organises networking events for newcomers. Mobility & public transport

Public transport in the Canton of Zug is reliable and runs frequently. You reach Zurich main station by train in 25 minutes and Lucerne in 20 minutes. The zone ticket 41 (Canton of Zug) covers all buses and trains within the canton. With the ZVV combined pass you can combine Zug and Zurich. For short distances within the city of Zug a bike is ideal – the city is flat and has good cycle paths. Bike parking is available right at Zug station.

Eating out

Zug’s old town offers a good selection: the Restaurant Rathauskeller serves classic Swiss cuisine, while the Brasserie im Metalli is ideal for a quick lunch. If you want international food, you will find it around Bahnhofstrasse and Kolinplatz. A local tip: be sure to try the real Zug cherry cake – best at the Confiserie Speck right in the old town.
